The Story

When the persians captured the Roman Emperor Valerian I (253-260), the Roman Empire went into a free-fall. The eastern and western portions of the empire broke away under separate rulership, while the central portion was racked with rebellions against emperor Gallienus. After Gallienus was murdered in 268, the military emperors who followed managed to steer Rome onto a course of recovery. Recovery came with coin reform by Emperor Aurelian by 274. He reformed the coinage, creating a new denomination with more silver, the aurelianianus.

This Aurelianianus has been graded an AU by NGC Ancients and encapsulated in a story vault detailing the history behind the coin.

*Note* Coin received may slightly vary from that pictured however, year, grade and coin type will all match.
